This is my first post on the forum. Was a big fan of Quasar all through the run in the nineties, bought them all as they were released, still have all 60 issues in a collection that numbers around 3500, in storage at my mother's house. But, I used to go to quite a lot of conventions back in the day with a sketchbook to get artists to do something original just for me. A couple of times I asked for renditions of Wendell. Unfortunately, these are just photographs of the sketches, as I don't have a scanner right now, so the quality leaves something to be desired, but I hope you enjoy them. One of my favorite sketches in the entire book is the Bair Quasar. He watered down some india ink to do the star cape and then used a metallic pen to do the stars.
Michael Bair:
Ed McKeogh: Welcome to the Quantum Zone! Great sketches!

(TWO MORE ABOVE, ALSO) From What If #32, What If the Avengers were Pawns of Korvac. These are the original pencil drawings by Mark Gruenwald & Greg LaRocque. Final inks were done on a separate page to preserve these pencil pages. Those familiar with this issue from 1982 know virtually every Marvel inker contributed to this project. Script, layout & design was handled by Mark Gruenwald & finish pencils by Greg LaRocque. Mark has unfortunately passed away and these may be the only surviving pages with his pencil work. Truly a one of a kind & a true collectors item. http://cgi.ebay.com/What-If-32-original-art-by-Mark-Gruenwald-LaRocque_W0QQitemZ170301287404QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item170301287404&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4|65%3A3|39%3A1|240%3A1318#ebayphotohosting

Finally, I got something awesome.
Quasar #2, pg 25: The page where Eon puts Wendell through the "rite". I've been geeking out all day long and I finally got it!!!! (not to mention this issue was the issue that started me on all things NOT Spider-Man in the MU and introduced me to Mark Gruenwald and Quasar! Very dear to my heart.)
To be coming to a post near you.........

The "Rite of Passage" for Wendell. I'll try to get a better picture of it later. Everybody enjoy!

Beautiful page! Quite important to the character, too. Congratulations, again. Good to know that it's in a good home.

Issue two is my fav. I think we've discussed this before, but I agree...#'s 1 and 2 are very strong...an excellent beginning to the series. I think Gru sagged a bit until he kicked things into high gear with Journey Into Mystery, though. Still good, solid issues. But, man, what a way to start. I sure wish they would have reprinted #2 in Annihilation Classic along with #1.

Issue 2 will always be my favorite. Always. But I really thought Gru had things down until after 25. 1-25 was gold for me. Tied up with a nice velvet ribbon. It was after that initial "mega-arc" that the title got saddled with all the tie-ins. From 41 on....it just felt a little tired. At that point I'd have loved to see another voice to bring it to the title. But whatever...we're talking art here! / And for shiggles: My holy grails for this title- artwise: Any Spider/Quasar/Terminus page from issue 7 (not to mention the Cover). And the Cover for issue 37. I love that Anomaly cover with all the "Oblivion" words on it. By far, my favorite. If I ever get the chance.......I'll jump at it. Now if I can only get the attention of Mr. Capullo......hmmmmm.

I hear you! I think maybe 2 or 3 people in Antarctica might not know about my great love for the cover of #32. I was thinking the other day, though. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful issue (interiors) than #27. I prefer Harry on inks, but man, Capullo and Williams knocked that one out of the park. That Page 3 splash is just full of awesome.

I've just resigned myself to knowing that I'm going to pay for some Quasar artwork. Got a great page of Wendell against AIM with a giant Quantum Hammer from the first issue. Another page where Deathurge shoots Quasar in the back and he falls, enveloped in Oblivion.....only to disappear! But to where? And a page from issue 4 with just Wendell and Kayla (the new secretary) chatting it up. AWESOME! Pics when I get them.

Alright guys,
Which did you get out of that embarrassment of riches? Was hoping those Issue 6 pages would stick around for another month but they're basically all gone! Only the Heebink pages (which admittedly aren't as great issue and art-wise) are still there.
So which was it?

So which was it? As much as I would have loved to be the one, my Quasar art days are much less frequent with my wife finishing her degree. Man, they did go fast, though! Hope they went to good homes.

I'm sorry to hear that, Will. That's downright terrible. Man, those wifes! Always getting in the way of fun! That being said: Got my three! Classic Deathurge from #2, Wendell learning about the Q-bands for the first time from #1 , and an awesome Wendell/Kayla flirt page from #4. Will do my best to get them up in the next day or two.
